New Delhi: Apna Punjab Media: Former Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the United States. Senior diplomat Vinay Kwatra is retiring as the Foreign Secretary of India and is expected to take charge soon as per orders issued by the Ministry of External Affairs. Vinay Kwatra, a 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, completed his tenure as Foreign Secretary on July 14 after holding the post for more than two years. His career has been marked by important diplomatic appointments, including serving as India’s Ambassador to France from 2017 to 2020 and Ambassador to Nepal from 2020 to 2022. Kwatra’s wide-ranging experience includes a stint as Minister (Commerce) in the Embassy of the United States of America in Washington DC from May 2010 to July 2013. He was also posted to China twice, first as a counselor and then as deputy chief of mission. The embassy in Beijing, particularly Quatra, played a key role in the implementation of the Rafale jet deal, in which India purchased 36 jets from France in exchange for take-off. Known for his fluency in French and deep understanding of India’s geo-strategic challenges and partnerships, Quatra’s contribution has been significant in shaping India’s foreign relations.
