Tokyo: Apna Punjab Media: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Australian counterpart Penny Wong in Tokyo on Monday. Meanwhile, the two leaders discussed steps to strengthen bilateral ties including security, trade and education and further strengthen practical cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Jaishankar and Veng are in Tokyo to attend the meeting of foreign ministers of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue countries.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said in a post on X, “The day began with a meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wang in Tokyo. Next steps to strengthen various sectors including security, trade and education were discussed. They We also discussed deepening our practical cooperation.” Indo-Pacific region, which is expected to continue in the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers meeting. India, Japan, the US and Australia formed the ‘Quad’ in November 2017 to develop a new strategy to keep critical sea lanes in the Indo-Pacific region free from any influence. Jaishankar’s “comprehensive” talks with his US counterpart Antony Blinken took place against the backdrop of a jitter in Indo-US relations due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia three weeks ago.
