Dhaka: Apna Punjab Media: Days after violence broke out against reservation in government jobs in Bangladesh, police today imposed strict curfew across the country and military forces patrolled various parts of the national capital Dhaka. After the violence broke out in Bangladesh, many people have died while hundreds have been injured. Many reports have come out regarding the number of dead and according to ‘Samay TV’ 43 people have been killed.
An Associated Press reporter saw 23 bodies at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, but it was not immediately clear whether all of them had died the previous day. On Thursday, 22 people were killed when protesting students tried to impose a ‘complete shutdown’ in the country. Many people were killed on Tuesday and Wednesday also. Clashes broke out between police and protesters on the streets and university campuses in the capital Dhaka and other cities. Authorities have banned mobile and internet services. Some TV news channels have also stopped working and the websites of most Bangladeshi newspapers are not open. Officials could not be immediately contacted to confirm the number of deaths, but ‘Daily Pratham Alo’ newspaper reported that 103 people have died in these protests since Tuesday. The US Embassy in Dhaka said yesterday that media reports indicate thousands of people have been injured in Bangladesh. The embassy said that the situation is unstable. On the other hand, ruling Awami League party general secretary and MP Ubaid-ul-Kader said that orders have been given to shoot the protesters at sight.
