Wellington : Apna Punjab Media : It’s official: a significant tax increase is coming to residents in 2024. Approved during a council meeting Monday night, next year’s 7.38 per cent increase will cost the average homeowner $8.23 a month or $98.79 for the year and does not include the county portion of any tax increase, which currently sits with a draft 4.8 per cent increase. While this is the highest increase Centre Wellington residents have seen in years, it remains a step down from the 8.54 per cent increase originally proposed in the first draft of the budget. “This is the last step in establishing the 2024 budget for the township,” said managing director of corporate services and treasurer Adam McNabb, during the meeting. “Our finance staff have made all requisite changes stemming from the budget deliberation sessions with council and compiled the necessary information to inform the bylaw.” In 2023, there was a 3.53 per cent increase, a 2.16 per cent increase in 2022 and a 1.33 per cent increase in 2021. One per cent of the tax levy is equivalent to a $12.21 tax increase for the average residential property.
