Ottawa: ON Punjab Media: Canadian police have arrested six people of Indian origin for their involvement in an extortion ring called Project Gaslight. An arrest warrant has also been issued in the country against the seventh suspect in this case. The arrests were made in connection with an extortion scheme targeting South Asian businessmen in the Edmonton area. Those arrested include Jashandeep Kaur (19), Gurkaran Singh (19), Manav Heer (19), Parminder Singh (21), Diwanur Asht (19) and a 17-year-old boy. The arrested accused face many serious criminal charges. A total of 54 charges have been leveled against the seven accused. The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is currently investigating 40 incidents related to this series of extortion incidents, the most recent of which was a fire at an apartment building in the Kavanagh neighbourhood. On July 25, Edmonton Police Service and Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers executed search warrants at six locations in southeast Edmonton, resulting in the arrest of five men and one woman. The men arrested are believed to be involved in an extortion scheme targeting South Asian business owners in the Edmonton area.
