Bhawanigarh : Daljeet Kaur : Punjab Soil and Water Conservation Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today inaugurated a project here at Chahlan Patti, Bhawanigarh of Sangrur district which enable the use of water sewage treatment plant for irrigation of fields after due treatment.

Cabinet Minister Meet Hayer said that under the able leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state government was emphasising on developing such alternative sources of irrigation to prevent the decline of ground water level. He said that Mann government has set the target to increase the use of treated water for irrigation of fields from the current 30,000 acres to 60,000 acres. He said that the use of treated water for irrigation will not only reduce the exploitation of underground water but also reduce the use of chemical fertilizers like urea for agriculture because it is rich in natural minerals.

He also thanked the farmers of Bhawanigarh and Kakra village for supporting the planning and implementation of this project.
Meet Hayer said that the government has worked day and night to deliver canal water to farms which had not received the canal water from last 40 years. He said that water in the canals was now flowing at full capacity which ensured the reach of canal water to the tails. It is worth mentioning that the foundation stone of this project was laid by MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj on 15 April 2023, which has been completed in a record time of just four months.
