UK: Apna Punjab Media: Britain has launched a major campaign urging all expatriates, including Indians, living across the country to take e-Visas instead of using immigration documents. People who use a physical biometric residence permit (BRP) or biometric residence card (BRC) will move to a completely online system by next year under plans to completely digitalise the UK border and immigration system. Most of the BRPs will expire by the end of this year. These are being brought online in several phases. Seema Malhotra, the UK Home Office’s migration and citizenship secretary, said: “People who have immigration documents, They are urged to take immediate steps to convert to e-Visa and those who require advice and assistance, I would like to assure them that all facilities will be provided to them. The Home Ministry said that adopting an e-Visa is free and very simple. This provides greater convenience for customers, is cost effective and provides security to the UK border and immigration system. E-Visa cannot be lost, stolen or tampered with. Adoption of this system will not alter, affect or impair the user’s existing rights or immigration status.
