Ottawa: Apna Punjab Media: After efforts to reduce the number of foreigners in Canada, it is being said that now Indians have started returning to their country. One reason for this is also said to be that many Indians going to Canada are currently struggling with record unemployment. The unemployment rate for recent immigrants to Canada was 12.6 per cent in June. This is the worst level of unemployment in the last 10 years. The largest number of people who have acquired permanent citizenship in Canada are Indians. Therefore, it is likely that the Indian people will be hit the hardest by this unemployment. However, experts associated with the matter say that the sanctions imposed on India by the Justin Trudeau government of Canada during the last eight months will not solve their problems and their return from Canada is still a long way off.
According to Canada’s national statistical agency ‘Statistics Canada’, the unemployment rate is four percent less than 12.6 percent by 2023. Unemployment among people of Canadian origin is 5.5 percent. In 2023 it was 5 percent. New data shows the unemployment rate among immigrants is the highest since 2014, according to a report by the Globe and Mail. Indians are likely to be most affected by rising unemployment among immigrants, as Indians have acquired Canadian citizenship in large numbers in recent years. In 2023, Canada will give permanent citizenship to 4,71,810 people. Of these, 1,39,785 i.e. about 30 percent were Indians. According to ‘Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship’ Canada data, out of the 18,41,250 new permanent residents who came to Canada after 2019, 5,14,435 were Indians.
