DHAKA: Bangladesh’s interim government today said it has sent a diplomatic note to India for the return of sacked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Dhaka. Hasina has been in India since August 5. She left the country during the student-led protests and came to India. The Dhaka-based International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants against Hasina and her cabinet ministers, advisers and military and administrative officials for “crimes against humanity and genocide.” “We have sent a diplomatic note to the Indian government asking it to send him back to Dhaka for the judicial process in Bangladesh,” interim government Foreign Minister Touhid Hossain told reporters at his office. Earlier, Interior Ministry Adviser Jahangir Alam said his office had sent a letter to the Foreign Ministry seeking the sacked premier’s extradition. “We have sent a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs regarding his extradition. The process still continues. Alam said an extradition treaty already exists between Dhaka and New Delhi under which Hasina can be brought back to Bangladesh.
