While BJP and RSS appreciated the decision, opposition parties strongly criticized it.
New Delhi: Apna Punjab Media: According to a recent order issued by the Personnel Ministry of the Central Government, the 58-year-old ban on government employees from taking part in the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has been lifted. A war of words has started between the opposition and BJP regarding these orders.
BJP leader and Union Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed the decision and said that the Congress government’s decision in 1966 to ban government employees from participating in RSS activities was taken for political reasons. He said that Congress has always had a negative attitude towards nationalist organizations and there is no place for such attitude in the country. Describing RSS as a nationalist organization, he said that patriotism among its members is full of violence. Meanwhile, Union Minister Giriraj Singh praised the decision and said that RSS has always worked for social harmony and integrity of the country. Its volunteers have been at the forefront in helping victims during natural disasters and other such tragedies. At the same time, BJP leader Amit Malviya, in a post on ‘X’ today, citing the order of July 9, said that under an unconstitutional order issued 58 years ago in 1966, government employees were banned from taking part in RSS activities. Now these orders have been withdrawn by the Central Government.
