Houston: A 53-year-old Indian-origin neurosurgeon in the US has been fined over USD 2 million for medical fraud after he falsely claimed to have performed a surgery to implant an electro-acupuncture device. Houston-based doctor Rajesh Bindal has been fined $20,95,946 for fraud in the Medicare and Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP). According to federal investigators, Bindal billed for a procedure that would normally require an operating room, but no such surgery was performed. Instead, some of the devices were affixed behind the patient’s ears.
