Ottawa: Apna Punjab Media: Canada’s Trudeau government has announced to reduce the number of foreigners working temporarily in Canada. The decision will impact millions of foreigners in low-paid and temporary jobs, the largest number of whom are Indian students. Experts believe that Trudeau’s decision will increase unemployment among immigrants. Trudeau posted on Twitter that the labor market has changed. We are going to reduce the number of low-wage foreign workers in Canada. Now is the time for our businesses to invest in Canada’s workers and youth. Let us tell you that the Government of Canada had relaxed some rules to overcome the problem of labor shortage after Covid-19, due to which the number of foreign workers – especially low-wage workers – had increased significantly. Trudeau said employers in areas with high unemployment, that is, where the unemployment rate is 6 per cent or higher – Will not be able to hire low-paid temporary foreign workers. However, there will be limited relaxations in food security sectors like agriculture, food processing and fisheries as well as sectors like construction and health care where there is still a serious shortage of staff, the government said Employers will no longer be allowed to hire more than 10 percent of their total workforce. Besides, the contract of the lowest paid will also be reduced from two years to one year.
