Rome: Apna Punjab Media: Police have released photographs of 7 people who were found guilty in the violent fight that took place during the derby tournament last year. Releasing the pictures, the police said that 5 people have already confessed to their charges while two others have now been convicted by the court. Several people were injured in violence between two groups during a Kabaddi tournament in Alveston. Police were called to Elvaston Lane at 4pm on Sunday August 20, 2023 following reports of shots fired and people fighting with weapons. The fight was planned with a group meeting in Brunswick Street Derby.
Accused Parminder Singh was present in that meeting, but his face was covered at the spot. Police found one of his shoulder bags at the scene, which contained a loaded semi-automatic pistol. His DNA was on both the pistol and the bag. found He was shot in the neck during the incident. A 25-year-old man from the West Midlands has been charged with violent activity and possession of a weapon. The second group, Malikit Singh, 24, of Court Road, Wolverhampton, has been charged with violent offences.
While five other people involved in this incident are Karamjit Singh (36) resident of Shakespeare Street Derby, Baljeet Singh (33) resident of Lawfred Avenue Wolverhampton, Hardev Uppal (34) resident of Sycamore Road Tipton, Jagjit Singh (31) resident of Bolton. Road Wolverhampton, Doodhnath Tripathi, 30, of Manor Avenue Hounslow, was convicted of possession of a sharp weapon, inciting violence and causing bodily harm. All seven men will be sentenced at Derby Crown Court at a later date.
Investigating officer Inspector Matt Croom said what was supposed to be a good day out for people attending a sporting event turned into mass violence. Detective Constable Stevie Barker said hundreds of officers from across the country had assisted in the investigation.
